Ready for a fun filled summer season? All of us in Millinocket sure are! Are you planning to take your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to one of the lakes or community pools?
If so, you can get them ready to swim with the Millinocket Recreation Department! The department offers swimming lessons at the Municipal Swimming Pool located just past Stearns Jr/Sr High School in the recreation complex. We have skilled water safety instructors certified through the American Red Cross. They will get your little ones trained in water safety which promotes healthy exercise and enhances aquatic endurance through the years.
Registration starts: Monday, June 25th 9am! Stop by during this opening week in the mornings or during regular swimming sessions to sign them up. We encourage our summer residents to join in on the fun as well!
Here are our seasonal prices for classes:

We offer eight different classes that suit all ages!
Parent and Child Aquatics
Introduction to Water Skills (Level 1)
Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills (Level 2)
Stroke Development (Level 3)
Stroke Improvement (Level 4)
Stroke Refinement (Level 5)
Personal Water Safety (Level 6)
Lifeguard Preparation Course (Local course not recognized by the American Red Cross)
Class times will be determined by the instructors. You will be notified after registration if your child’s class is at 9:00am, 10:00am, or 11:00am.
Swimming Lessons – Monday, Wednesday, Friday (9:00am – 12:00pm)
General Swim – Seven days a week (1:00pm – 4:00pm)
Night Swim – Monday, Wednesday, Friday (6:00pm – 7:30pm)
Adult Swim – Tuesday, Thursday (4:00pm – 5:00pm)
ARTS & CRAFTS
This program allows young children to design and make a variety of crafts and other imaginative projects. This program will run in from June 25th through August 17th. The Locations and times are as follows: East Millinocket 9-11:30 am Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Schenck High School Auditorium. In Medway 12-4 pm Monday through Friday at the Recreation Area Playground Building. In Millinocket 9-11:30 am Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Katahdin Pride Playground Building.
CANOE & KAYAKS
Through donations from Old Town Canoe, the Katahdin Area Partnership the Schenck Outdoor Physical Education Program, and local businesses, we offer the use of canoes and kayaks to children and adults. For further information, please contact the Recreation office at 746-3553.
CAMP TOUCHDOWN– Camp Director: Cody Herring
The Stearns football coaching staff and area coaches, who have years of experience, will be offering a clinic to all students wentering grades 6-12. The dates and times will be announced. The camp focus is to develop and improve on skills needed to play the game of football. Coaches will teach the proper fundamentals and techniques of the game, while also challenging each attendee to improve each day. Athletes will be divided into groups based on age, ability and postition. This is a non-contact clinic.
There will be a co-ed softball league in the Katahdin region this summer. Teams will be playing evening games through June, July and August. contact Chris Hale for more information at 731-3759.
SENIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
Senior League Baseball will be open to participants in grades 8-12. This program will begin in June at the DiFederico Field in Millinocket. Games will be played in Millinocket. The times of these games will be announced soon.
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Youths entering grades 9-12 will be able to participate in the summer High School Basketball program in both East Millinocket and Millinocket. The programs will take place at Stearns and Schenck High Schools. Participants will attend practice as well as games against area schools. Games will be from 6 pm to 8 pm. The season will start June 18th and will end with the Summer Basketball Festival on July 13th and 14th, which will be held at both Schenck and Stearns High School.
FIELD HOCKEY CAMP
Heather Girsa will be offering a Field Hockey Camp the week of June 25th from 8- 9am at the Millinocket field hockey field.
The Recreation Department will offer two playground trips this summer. These trips will be on a Tuesday. We will go to the movies and to Wild Acadia Fun Park. The dates and times will be posted at the Pools an Water Front this summer.
A lifeguard training course will be offered to swimmers age 15 and older who want to become American Red Cross Lifeguards. The cost of the course is $275. For more information you may contact the Recreation Department.
MOUNT KATAHDIN BASKETBALL CAMP
The Recreation department will be sponsoring a basketball clinic during the week of June 18th at Schenck High School
If you register by June 8th the cost is $55. If you register after June 8th the cost is $60. The times are: Grades 3-6 9-12 noon. Grades 7-12 1 – 4 pm. Complimentary t-shirts and awards will be given out to all. The clinic includes: drills, films, foul shooting, games, and shooting contest. This program is in partnership with: Law Offices of Tanous & Snow, Eastmill Federal Credit Union, Katahdin Federal Credit Union, Millinocket Little Pro Basketball, Select Designs and the East Millinocket Recreation Department.
MILLINOCKET MEMORIAL LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The 2018 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawing, story hour, and more. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock”. There will be free lunches on weekdays for children under 18. For more information, call the library at 723-7020 or visit their website http://www.millinocketmemoriallibrary.org.
a lunch program is being offered to children from East Millinocket, Medway, Millinocket, and Woodville. This program runs Monday throgh Friday starting at 11:30 am at all locations. The program begins on June 25th and ends on August 3rd.
All campers must have shin guards and a water bottle with them. A t-shirt and soccer ball will be provided. This camp will run from July 30th through August 2nd at Schenck High School Soccer Fields.
Grassroots Camp– Ages 4-6 9-10 am $45
Community Camp Ages 7-14 10am-1pm $85
High School Preseason Camp Ages 14+ 1:00-3:00 pm $85
This program is for high school and alumni males and females. It will take place on the upper soccer field field behind Schenck High School at 6 pm on Thursdays beinging June 28th.
