Great Lakes Hydro America– Letter of Intent, Water Quality Certification

Great Lakes Hydro America, LLC (GLHA) holds licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the Ripogenus Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. P-2572) and the Penobscot Mills Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. P-2458), which are undergoing relicensing by FERG. The current licenses for the two projects were issued by FERC on October 22, 1996, and expire September 30, 2026. To obtain new licenses, GLHA must apply for and receive Water Quality Certification (WOC) from the State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection (Maine DEP) under the provisions of Section 401 of the federal Clean Water Act. The Maine DEP WOC application process requires the applicant to mail a copy of the Notice of Intent to File WOC Applications to the Municipal Office in which the Projects are located, which is why you are receiving this letter and attached notice.
