Lend a Hand, or Get a Hand: The Millinocket Handy Helper Program

Connecting community volunteers with older and disabled neighbors to keep Millinocket homes safe, independent, and connected.

Organized by the Town of Millinocket’s Age Friendly Committee, the Handy Helper program is a community-driven initiative that pairs local volunteers with older adults and disabled residents. Our goal is simple: to help our neighbors manage small, non-professional household tasks that keep their living spaces safe and functional. By bridging the gap between those who need a bit of assistance and those eager to give back, we are making Millinocket a stronger, more supportive place to live at any age.

How We Will Be Able To Help

Home Safety Updates

Installing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, safety grab bars, non-slip bathmats, and stair treads.
Minor Repairs & Maintenance

Repairing or replacing door locks, handles, springs, and closers; installing padlocks; cleaning dryer vents.
Household Chores

Moving heavy furniture, hanging pictures or mirrors, and changing hard-to-reach lightbulbs or resetting clocks.
Seasonal Tasks

Removing or installing window air conditioners and screens; seasonal outdoor work like raking leaves (one-time assist, not ongoing yard work).
Errand Support

Delivering pre-ordered groceries from Hannaford to Go or other local retail shops that accept pre-orders.

Become a Handy Helper

Are you looking for a tangible way to give back to your community? Just a few hours of your month can significantly improve the quality of life for a vulnerable neighbor. Whether you are skilled with a screwdriver, strong enough to lift window AC units, or willing to pick up a grocery order on your way home, we have a place for you.

Volunteer Requirements

Must be a resident of Millinocket or the surrounding local area.
Must fill out a form, either online (below) or in-person at the Town Office.
Background Check: To guarantee the absolute safety and comfort of our residents, all prospective volunteers must pass a comprehensive background check before being paired with a neighbor.
