Vehicle Registration FAQ

If any person has to file an SR-22 with the state they must pay their excise tax at the town office and complete the registration at a branch office, which the closest is Bangor.

– New Dealer Registration

Forms needed  – In State Dealer: Invoice showing sales tax paid, title application and proof of insurance. – Out of State dealer: Invoice showing the full purchase price of the vehicle, the title of the vehicle and proof of insurance.
How to obtain – Obtain from the dealer.
Process of registration – The complete registration can be done at the town office with the correct paperwork described above and the person whose name is on the paperwork needs to be present to sign the registration.

– New Private Sale Registration

Forms needed – If the vehicle is a 1995 or newer we would need the previous title, a bill of sale describing the vehicle (make, model, year, VIN number, price charged, previous owner’s name and address) and proof of insurance.
How to obtain – From the previous owner selling the vehicle.
Fees – $33.00 title fee, 5.5% on the purchase price of the vehicle, $35.00 registration fee for a regular passenger plate, commercial plates are based on the weight of the vehicle. Excise tax varies with the vehicle and is based on the MSRP of the vehicle. We do NOT give estimates over the phone. Customers can bring their paperwork down to the town office and we will do a worksheet for them on the cost of the registration.
Process of registration – The title, sales tax and registration paperwork is done and needs to be signed by the person whose name is on the paperwork.

– Re-registration

Forms needed (rapid-renewal) For Millinocket customers that have registered their vehicles in our office before they need to bring in proof of insurance and mileage. If they are re-registering using Rapid Renewal they need their old registration, proof of insurance and their mileage.
How to obtain At the Millinocket Town office or online at rapid renewal.
Fees – Fees are determined by the year, msrp and type of plate that they have. Customers may call the town office to check on prices.

– New Maine Resident Registration

Forms needed – Title of the vehicle or lien holders name and address if the vehicle title is not in the customer’s possession; current registration from the state they are coming from and proof of insurance.
How to obtain – The Town Office
Fees – $33.00 title fee, $35.00 registration fee for a regular passenger plate, (there are other fees if obtaining a commercial plate or specialty plate)
